You know the deal, it’s What’s Happenin’ Wednesday! Yes, it’s true – you can pickle strawberries. The store which will be located at 2624 Buford Road will offer meat, seafood, growlers, wine and more. You can find more info here. In the kitchen: I recently made this recipe for chicken satay with spicy peanut sauce from The Frog Commissary Cookbook, and talk about delicious!  The sauce had just right the amount of heat and we enjoyed it with rice and roasted green beans. The dog days of summer are certainly living up to their name this year, am I right? But with every hot and sticky summer day comes a silver lining, this time in the form of a refreshing and fruity cocktail featuring MOTHER shrub. Mother what, you ask? A shrub, also known as a drinking vinegar, is a great way to infuse flavor into both food and drink recipes. Drinking vinegars are surprisingly versatile products, and they provide a great opportunity to be creative in the kitchen or at the bar. The list of what you can use them for goes on and on, but possibilities include adding to sparkling water, beer, champagne or a cocktail or using in recipes for marinades, salad dressings or even a dessert topping drizzled over pound cake or ice cream. Drinking vinegars first came to the scene hundreds of years ago, but these days, they are making a comeback and you’ll…

When I walked into Zzaam for the first time, I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed. Did I want a burrito or a noodle bowl? Wait, what – I get to choose six toppings? And I have to choose a meat and a sauce? So many options! Located in the heart of Carytown at 3300 W Cary St., Zzaam offers what seems like an endless supply of choices, sort of like Chipotle on steroids. After walking through the door, you must make your first decision: do you want to build your own or go with one of the Chef Zam specials? I typically opt to make my own, although the Man Doo Guk (dumpling noodle soup) and Japchae (potato noodle dish) do sound delicious. When you go down the make your own route, there are what feels like a series of endless decisions to make, but let’s look at that as…

If you’ve been keeping up with Let’s Share A Dish since the beginning, you’ve probably figured out one of my favorite weekend activities is visiting wineries within an hour or two of Richmond. I enjoy a glass of rosé as much as the next girl, but I’d be lying if I said my favorite thing about wineries isn’t the scenery. We’re lucky to have a number of amazing vineyards throughout Virginia, but when I heard that Upper Shirley Vineyards opened to the public this past March, I knew this was a place I had to visit. After all, who can resist a glass of wine that you enjoy with a water view? Upper Shirley is owned by Suzy and Tayloe Dameron, who live on the vineyard grounds. It is located off of Route 5 about 20 or so minutes from downtown Richmond. The winery offers a great view of the James River, though calling…
