I’m a firm believer that some of best gifts to give (and receive) are experiences. I’m lucky to have friends and family that share that same sentiment, and my husband Taylor and I recently were given a gift card to use towards a Southern Season cooking class. If you aren’t familiar with Southern Season, it’s a speciality foods store with roots in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and additional locations in Charleston, Raleigh and Richmond. In addition to aisles filled with gourmet and specialty foods, each location has a state-of-the-art kitchen where they offer cooking classes taught by different local instructors. Needless to say, this is a gift we were thankful to receive – and excited to enjoy! When Taylor and I were looking at the winter class schedule deciding which Southern Season cooking class to take, our decision was a no-brainer – we wanted to take Biscuits! 101. Seemingly one of Southern…

I’ve had somewhat of an evolution on Happy Hour. In college I was forever in search of the strongest cheapest drink specials. When I moved back to Richmond and was living in my first Fan apartment my priorities changed and I was focused on finding places nearby, usually within a 10 minute walk, (pre-uber days). Now, nearly three years later three things are important to me when it comes to happy hour: Do they have cheap drinks? Can I plausibly make it in time after work? Do they have great food or bar snacks? Enter, Graffiato — Mike Isabella’s Richmond restaurant opened in 2014 and arguably has one of Richmond’s best happy hours in the city. At the bar, you can find both food and drink specials weekdays from 4 to 7 p.m. And if you’re having a rough Monday (wait, what Monday isn’t rough?) you’re in luck, happy hour specials run all…

Sooooo, you might be asking yourself, “What is What’s Happenin’ Wednesday?” and lucky for you, I HAVE THE ANSWER! Each week Meg and I will be sharing a few things that are on our radar — food news, ideas for updating your home, tid bits to share at your next happy hour and everything in between. We’ll also be giving all of our Richmond followers a little heads up if there are any events worth clearing your calendar for. So without further ado, here’s our first What’s Happenin’ Wednesday. I’m visiting Charleston, South Carolina this weekend and this is my food spirit guide. Look for my road trip snack essentials guide coming to the blog soon. If you haven’t watched this Ariana Grande skit from this past weekend’s Saturday Night Live, there is no time like the present. In Richmond donut news, Crossroads (on the southside) is now selling donuts from the Treatshop. This is my…

Have you ever thought about an idea for a long time, and then one day decided to just go for it? If we could insert the emoji of the girl raising her hand here, we would – because that’s how this little corner of the internet came to be. You can learn more about us here, but the short story is we met while working at a public relations firm in Richmond, Virginia (where we both still work today) and quickly discovered a shared love for food, among other things. We both feel lucky to live in a city that not only has a whole lot of charm – but also award-winning restaurants, markets, beautiful places to picnic and people and events that make every day both fun and delicious. Combine that with an interest in writing and photography and a desire to eat and make all of the foods, and here…
