So, we have a little tradition here at Let’s Share A Dish that every year, we visit Stella’s for both of our birthdays — once in January and once in September. We started with lunch back in January of 2014, and four years later, we’re still going strong. We’ve done a lot of dinners in the years since, but this year we decided to switch things up and do a birthday brunch. Before we get to talking about the food, there’s one important thing you should know about brunch at Stella’s. The restaurant only takes reservations for groups of six or more during lunch or brunch, so if you’re a smaller party and you can’t make a reservation, you should get there right when they open at 10 a.m. or even a few minutes before. On our recent visit, there was already a Millie’s style line outside the door at 10…

Billy Jack’s Shack, Hardywood heads west and more. A second restaurant from the owners of Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint is set to open in Richmond this spring, Billy Jack’s Shack. Described in Richmond BizSense as Jack Brown’s on steroids, I’m already excited. A ribbon cutting for Hardywood West Creek took place this week, with brewing expected to start in late February. Last but not least, the 2018 Elby award nominations are out, so take a look and see if any of your favorite spots made the cut. The first new menu item in over a decade. Last week, the internet was abuzz with the news that with the new year, In-N-Out was introducing a new item to its very limited menu for the first time in 15 years — hot chocolate. Available at all 328 locations, the beverage is served with mini marshmallows on the side. The most recent item…

‘Tis the season for giving, and if you’re still looking for the perfect gift for the food-loving family member or friend in your life, well, look no further. We’ve put together a short list of some of our local favorites items that would be great for gifting, whether as a stocking stuffer or bundled together in a gift basket. AR’s Hot Southern Honey Richmonder Ames Russell has always enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, so much so that each year when the holidays came around Russell would make homemade gifts of some kind for his family. First, there was a homemade remoulade recipe, and then a recipe for fried chicken that called for hot honey, which inspired Russell to try his hand at making the condiment at home. He made about 100 bottles for friends and family one year before deciding that this blend of Virginia honey with fresh red…

The Black Sheep lives. Food news happens quick, friends. In the last What’s Happenin’ Wednesday, Kelsey shared that The Black Sheep was closing its doors – but not for long, it turns out, as the owner announced something new is headed to the former Black Sheep space, though it looks like the jury is still on out on what exactly that will be. You can read more details over at Richmond Magazine and RichmondBizSense. Christmas is in session. If you’re looking to combine a fun meal with something festive, look no further than Rapp Session. Looking for holiday music? They have it. Fun decorations? Check. An opportunity to give back? That’s covered, too. Don’t worry, they didn’t forget about food and drink specials, both eggnog and hot cider are making an appearance on the menu this month. Karri Peifer has the full scoop on how the restaurant is getting into the…

Pupatella, a Neapolitan-style pizza restaurant, opened its first Richmond location — and second Virginia location — in the former Rancho T space at 1 North Morris Street back in July. The restaurant’s first location in Arlington is known for serving some of the best pizza in the D.C. area (and has awards to prove it!) so we were excited to try it out. We ventured to the restaurant for lunch and there’s a lot to like about this spot, from the free and convenient parking which is a big plus in a part of town where parking can be tricky to the efficient and friendly service from the second you walk in the door. When you walk inside, you order at the counter, take a number and then find a seat. On our visit, our food was brought out very quickly which is especially nice during the lunch hour when…
