The Slice is Right at Pupatella

The Slice is Right at Pupatella

Pupatella, a Neapolitan-style pizza restaurant, opened its first Richmond location — and second Virginia location — in the former Rancho T space at 1 North Morris Street back in July. The restaurant’s first location in Arlington is known for serving some of the best pizza in the D.C. area (and has awards to prove it!) so we were excited to try it out.

We ventured to the restaurant for lunch and there’s a lot to like about this spot, from the free and convenient parking which is a big plus in a part of town where parking can be tricky to the efficient and friendly service from the second you walk in the door. When you walk inside, you order at the counter, take a number and then find a seat. On our visit, our food was brought out very quickly which is especially nice during the lunch hour when time is often more limited.

We wanted to try a few things off the menu and started with the Brussel sprouts with green apple and balsamic dressing from the small plates section of the menu and the panzarotti, potato croquettes stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella from the friggitoria section, fried food of Naples.

We also got two pizzas (because leftovers!), the sausage and onion pizza from the red pizza section of the menu and the pesto pizza from the white pizza section. We didn’t choose to create our own pizza this time, but you can always choose to build your own custom pie. Everything we had was really tasty, but of all the things we tried, the Brussel sprouts and the pesto pizza were our favorites. Both were fairly simple but super flavorful.

It’s worth noting that the portion sizes are generous at Pupatella and while the menu recommends one pizza per adult, sharing one would definitely be doable especially if you get a small plate or a salad to go along with a pizza.

The restaurant has some specials worth mentioning, too, including a wine special where you can get $10 off a bottle of wine for ordering two pizzas and lunch specials that are offered Tuesday – Friday from 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., where you can get a Classica Doc pizza and a side salad for just $8.99 or choice of two select pizzas for $13.99.

Open Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Puppatella is certainly worth a visit.
