What’s Happenin’ Wednesday

Another week, another What’s Happenin’ Wednesday:

  • Kelsey and I checked out Stone Brewing’s new location in Richmond for the first time last week with a few coworkers – what an awesome addition to RVA! The outdoor area was a great place to spend a Friday evening, and if you follow us on Instagram you probably saw we enjoyed some Mean Bird while we were there.
  • This article from The Washington Post caught my eye earlier this week – the unwritten rules of dining out that all people should follow, where restaurant industry veterans provided some advice on on how to get  the most out of your experience the next time you dine out. (My favorite tip? Be considerate of your server and everyone else around you. The tip I’m the worst at following? Don’t treat the menu as a starting point for your own imagination. Oops.)
  • The good news: It’s officially picnic season!  The really good news? Garnett’s Cafe in Richmond makes it SUPER easy to dine al fresco. All you have to do is call and place a to-go order and ask for it in a picnic basket. It’s as easy as pie, which is also delicious at Garnett’s.  (And the best news: King of Pops recently announced they’ll be at Maymont Park every Saturday and Sunday, so you can follow up your picnic with a homemade popsicle!)
  • We’ve been waiting eagerly for The Fancy Biscuit to open, and that time is coming soon. A sign outside their space said two weeks or less this past Friday, and we couldn’t be more excited to check out the next venture of the Shyndigz folks.
  • In the kitchen: I can’t get enough of these roasted Brussel sprouts with pancetta and garlic. I’ve been making this easy and flavorful side dish all the time recently.
  • I couldn’t write this post without giving a birthday shout out to my pup Max – here he is last week celebrating the big 3! A pretty big day, considering that’s 21 in dog years. If you’re ever in need of an adorable birthday hat for your pet, this shop on Etsy was great to work with.

What to add to your calendar:

  • As of yesterday, every Tuesday at the Blue Goat is now Barbecuesdays! What does that mean for you? You get your choice of brisket or pulled pork and two sides for $16. If it’s anything like the rest of Blue Goat’s menu, it promises to be delish. (You heard it first if you follow us on Twitter.)
  • Take me out to the ballgame: The Flying Squirrels opening night is coming up on Thursday, April 14. The game usually sells out, so buy your tickets soon!
  • Hardwood Food Truck Court lovers, rejoice – the full court starts back up again tomorrow and runs 5:30 – 9 p.m. every Thursday through the rest of the season. Hardywood will kick things off tomorrow with 16 food truck vendors including Goatocado, The Dog Wagon and Sammich. (Good timing, as the Wall Street Journal just yesterday released The Beer Geek’s Guide to Richmond – and the feature image is the food truck court!)
  • The 2nd annual Support Virginia Green Tourism Oyster Roast & Festival is coming up this Sunday, April 10 at Tredegar.
  • It’s almost time for the first Richmond Restaurant Week of 2016! The spring event will take place from April 18-24. As always, a portion of the proceeds benefit FeedMore so it’s a win-win situation –  good eats for a good cause. Karri Peifer with the Richmond Times-Dispatch typically does a great round-up of menus, so keep an eye out for that as the week gets closer.

      I haven’t tried it yet but I think it’s so cool that they offer it! Definitely on my bucket list of things to try this spring / summer!
