What’s Happenin’ Wednesday

The Black Sheep lives. Food news happens quick, friends. In the last What’s Happenin’ Wednesday, Kelsey shared that The Black Sheep was closing its doors – but not for long, it turns out, as the owner announced something new is headed to the former Black Sheep space, though it looks like the jury is still on out on what exactly that will be. You can read more details over at Richmond Magazine and RichmondBizSense.

Christmas is in session. If you’re looking to combine a fun meal with something festive, look no further than Rapp Session. Looking for holiday music? They have it. Fun decorations? Check. An opportunity to give back? That’s covered, too. Don’t worry, they didn’t forget about food and drink specials, both eggnog and hot cider are making an appearance on the menu this month. Karri Peifer has the full scoop on how the restaurant is getting into the holiday spirit.

If an arcade wasn’t enough. Scott’s Addition has it all, between breweries, cideries, restaurants, and newly-open Circuit, I swear you could spend a long time in the neighborhood without coming close to running out of things to do. As of yesterday, the newest location of Tazza Kitchen is now open in Scott’s Addition for dinner service (which will soon be joined by lunch, happy hour and brunch service) you know, just in case you needed another option.

The final countdown. The days left in 2017 are numbered and with that, Tasting Table is already talking about the food trends that 2018 will be bringing our way. From flowers to plant-based protein, Andrew Bui has a list of seven trends you’ll want to be keeping an eye out for in the new year. Speaking of Tasting Table, did you see that the publication put the spotlight on Richmond this week?

In the kitchen. I love cooking, and I love the idea of baking, but in reality it just doesn’t happen a lot for me. That is, until cookie season comes around each year and I’m inspired to get in the kitchen to whip up some tried and true family recipes and something new I have my eye on. This year, that cookie I have my eye on comes from the most recent issue of Bon Appétit, pistachio thumbprint cookies. Take a look at the recipe here, maybe it will inspire you to put on an apron, too!

What to add to your calendar

Wine for tasting, pizza to-go. If you don’t have plans this Thursday, December 7, head on over to 8 1/2 where the restaurant will be holding a wine tasting to show off its newly added wine section from 5-7 p.m. In standard 8 1/2 fashion, details are limited beyond that, let’s be honest, you know it’s going to be good. You have the address, what more do you need to know?

Everything’s better by candlelight. Which is why you should go to the Church Hill Candlelight Christmas Walk, taking place this Friday, December 8 from 7:15 p.m. – 8:45 p.m. The public starts at St. John’s Church and you can find all the information for the walk on the Facebook event.

The perfect pairing. Buskey Cider is releasing a salted caramel cider this Saturday, December 9 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. You can visit the cidery at 2910 W. Leigh Street to try some for yourself.
