What’s Happenin’ Wednesday

Expansion underway. Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery announced a $14 million expansion last week that will not only expand their existing brewery space in Goochland but will also add a new production brewery in downtown Lynchburg. You can find all the details on  the announcement over at The Richmond Times-Dispatch.

It’s going down(town). From the looks of the Instagram feed for Garnett’s at The Valentine, it sounds like we’ll be able to enjoy those tasty sandwiches, salads and pies downtown pretty darn soon. Same goes for Yaki, which will open to the public this Friday. In other downtown dining news, Paul Keevil, owner of Millie’s LuLu’s and Tio Pablo, plans to open a coffee shop in Shockoe Bottom at 29 N. 17th Street and BonChon, a chain known for its Korean fried chicken, is opening its fourth location in Richmond and first within the city near VCU.

When basic just won’t cut it. Delish put together a round-up of the 9 most incredible coolers of all time, a perfect read for this time of year when boat rides and beach trips abound. One of the coolers on the list has a blender inside of it AND Bluetooth speakers. Sounds like the makings of a good summer party.

But what will you fill it with? If you read Tasting Table regularly, you won’t have any problem coming up with with ideas for the best way to fill that magical cooler of yours, but here are two to get you started: the makings for beer cocktails in a number of different varieties and the best rosé that you can get your hands on for under $15.

When good food goes viral. Speaking of Tasting Table, one of my favorite things to read on their website is the Under the Hood series, what they call “a deep dive into the art and science of the culinary world.” The most recent deep dive they did was on none other than the recent rainbow bagel craze. You’ve probably seen this video a time or two in your newsfeed, haven’t you?

What to add to your calendar

This weekend is what food lover’s dreams are made of. After all, it’s not every weekend that it’s the Richmond Greek Festival AND Broad Appètit. If you have pants with an elastic waistband, now is the time to pull them out of your drawer.

Passport to Spain. The next Passport Pop-Up will take place this Sunday at Belle and James from 4-8 p.m. where Mike Ledesma & Kunal Shah will feature cuisine from Valencia, Spain. Details here.

When you can’t give another tie. Give your dad the gift of an experience instead! There’s a lot going on around town for Father’s Day, but two of the events on our radar include the fourth annual Father’s Day Keg ‘n’ Oyster Fest at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and the Father’s Day Rooftop Boil & Brew at Quirk Hotel.

Down on the farm. Real Local RVA is hosting its second annual farm tour & cookout on Saturday, June 17. You can buy tickets –  available here – to the cookout, farm tour or both. Act fast, because the cookout portion of the event will feature a line-up of local chefs you don’t want to miss.
