Putting Roots in Richmond. If you follow the Charlottesville food scene, chances are somewhere along the way you’ve heard of Roots Natural Kitchen, a fast-casual chain specializing in natural food. Richmond BizSense has all the details, but the good news is the chain plans to open its first Richmond restaurant at 939 W. Grace Street by February 1, 2018. In other restaurant news, Karri Peifer has the scoop on Toast’s new restaurant in Powhatan and Olio’s opening in the Fan on the Richmond Times-Dispatch website.

Bagel creativity. Speaking of Charlottesville, I’ve got all the love for Bodo’s bagels and this ordering guide that Charlottesville 29 put together has me wanting to drive an hour west and get a bagel ASAP. Let’s just say Bodo’s employees sure know how to experiment when it comes to their bagel toppings -— there are some combinations on this list I never would have thought up on my own!

How do you guacamole? This article from Epicurious suggests no lime is the best way to get the true avocado flavor, but I’ve gotta say, this is one cooking tip I’m just not into. Lime juice is a guacamole necessity for me!

Brown bag lunch special. Love a good deal? Then Early Bird Biscuit Co. is the first place you’ll want to head on your lunch break this week. $5 will get you a sandwich, chips, & a canned drink from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. this week only. Gotta admit, this chicken salad sammy they posted on their Instagram feed looks pretty darn good.

What to order at every fast food restaurant. I try not to eat but so much fast food, but sometimes you’re on a long drive and the easiest thing to do is make a quick stop without going too far off the highway. Insert this fast-food guide from Thrillist, where a team of their staff compiled a list of the best items at every major fast-food chain.

In your ear. I came across this list of food podcasts on The Kitchn website earlier this week and I spotted a few on the list that I’ve never heard of before. I’m especially excited about giving Burnt Toast a listen, a podcast from the team at Food52.

What to add to your calendar

The next Cobra Burger pop-up. It’s happening tomorrow at The Veil Brewing Co. starting at 5 p.m., and it’s worth canceling your plans for. We have all the details on why this is a burger you don’t want to miss right here.

While you’re in Scott’s Addition. Head on over to Ardent Craft Ales for their Sweet Potato & Sage release, which is taking place tomorrow from 4 – 10 p.m. If you weren’t already feeling like fall was on the way, this will get you feeling all autumnal!

Within the 10 day forecast. This year’s Massey on the River is just a little over a week away! The event is coming up on Friday, September 22 at 6 p.m. on Mayo Island, and there’s still time to get tickets which includes yacht rock and all you can eat and drink for $50.

Stop and smell the roses. Save the date for Sunday, October 8 when Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will hold Rose Fest in the Cochrane Rose Garden from 12 – 3 p.m. Details are available here, but there are over 1,800 roses to see!
